CX Journey Mapping Practitioner
2-day practitioner certification that turns journey mapping from a workshop activity into a disciplined, evidence-led capability.
Journey mapping that drives improvement
The Certified CX Journey Mapping Practitioner (CXJMP) is a two-day ICXI Academy certification that turns journey mapping from a workshop activity into a disciplined, evidence-led capability. Journey mapping is one of the most-used and most-misused tools in customer experience: done well, it surfaces the friction, emotional troughs and root-cause failures that survey scores cannot see, and converts them into a prioritised, owned improvement plan. Delegates move from research methods and personas on Day 1 to map construction, service blueprinting, workshop facilitation and improvement planning on Day 2, applying every concept to one case study throughout.

The two-day agenda
Eleven modules built around one case study, the Meridian Energy Services journey from sign-up to first bill: foundations and research on Day 1, design, facilitation and action on Day 2.
Day 1 · Foundations & Research
- D1What is a Journey Map?
A precise, defensible definition, what a journey map is not, and the business case: diagnosis, prioritisation, alignment and accountability.
- D1Types of Journey Maps
Current State, Future State, Day-in-the-Life and Service Blueprint, and how to choose the right type for the problem.
- D1Customer Research Methods
Interviews, observation, analytics and diary studies, and triangulating between them so the map rests on evidence.
- D1Personas & Segmentation
Research-grounded personas built on behavioural, attitudinal and need-based segmentation.
- D1Touchpoints, Channels & Moments of Truth
A precise vocabulary: touchpoint, channel, moment of truth, zero moment of truth and backstage.
- D1The Emotional Arc
Researching, capturing and presenting emotion as a designable element, from peaks and troughs to service recovery.
Day 2 · Design, Facilitation & Action
- D2Anatomy of a Great Map
The eight components every complete map needs, from persona and stages to improvement actions.
- D2Service Blueprinting
The five layers and the line of visibility, connecting frontstage friction to its backstage root cause.
- D2Workshop Facilitation
Ground rules, managing the internal expert, and the six practices that produce evidence-grade outputs.
- D2Pain Points & Prioritisation
Pain points, moments of delight and effort points, prioritised with the impact and effort matrix.
- D2Full Map Build Workshop
In small groups, build the complete current-state Meridian journey map and service blueprint, then present and debrief.
- D2From Map to Action & Examination
Improvement plans with a named owner, timeline, baseline and success metric, the seven common mapping failures, then the exam.

Frequently asked questions
Who is CX Journey Mapping Practitioner for?
CX practitioners and managers, service designers, contact-centre, operations and digital leads, transformation teams and public-sector citizen experience leads. It also suits people who have built maps before and want a defensible, evidence-led method that holds up to scrutiny.
How long is the course and how is it delivered?
Two days, 09:00 to 15:00 each day, tutor-led in the classroom or as live virtual training, with a full case-study map build on Day 2. There are no prerequisites.
How is the course assessed?
A 30-question multiple-choice examination at the end of Day 2: six sections of five questions (fundamentals, research, types of maps, construction, blueprinting and insight to action), 40 minutes, with a pass mark of 70 per cent (21 of 30). Only the case-study evidence pack is allowed, and one re-sit is free.
What will I be able to do afterwards?
Choose the right type of map, plan the customer research behind it, build research-grounded personas and emotional arcs, construct a complete eight-component map and a five-layer service blueprint, facilitate the workshop, and turn pain points into an owned, prioritised improvement plan.
What makes CX Journey Mapping Practitioner different?
It treats a journey map as finished only when the improvement plan has an owner, a timeline and a success metric. Every concept is anchored in customer-reported evidence rather than internal assumption, and applied to one case study from the first module to the exam.
How does it fit ICXI's other courses?
It is a practitioner certification alongside CX Measurement & Analytics and the Certified VoC Practitioner. The CX Foundation Course is the starting point for those new to CX, and the five-day CX Professional Diploma builds full practitioner depth.
